Mons. Bernardo Antonini nacque a Cimego (Trento) il 20 ottobre 1932. Era ancora piccolo, quando la famiglia si trasferì a Raldon (Verona). Nel 1943 entrò nel Seminario diocesano di Roverè Veronese e fu ordinato sacerdote il 26 giugno 1955. Esercitò il primo ministero come vicario parrocchiale a S. Michele Extra (Verona). Nel 1962 ottenne la laurea in Lingue e letterature straniere moderne all’Università Cattolica e, due anni dopo, la Licenza di Dogmatica a Venegono. Dal 1956 al 1972 fu insegnante nel Seminario Minore. Nel 1975, ottenuta la licenza in Sacra Scrittura presso il Pontificio Istituto Biblico di Roma, divenne docente di tale disciplina presso lo Studio Teologico San Zeno di Verona e all’Istituto "S. Pietro Martire". Inoltre dal 1980 è stato Prefetto dell’Istituto G.M. Giberti per la formazione del Clero giovane e Direttore per la Formazione permanente del Clero, come pure dal 1983 Direttore del Centro istruzione e formazione religiosa della Diocesi.
La mano di Dio era su di lui e lo stava guidando per ben altre vie apostoliche, che forse don Bernardo neanche sospettava. Nel 1977 entrò nell’Istituto Paolino "Gesù Sacerdote". Don Bernardo, a contatto con la Famiglia Paolina, pur rimanendo fortemente legato alla Diocesi e all’obbedienza al proprio Vescovo, formava il proprio cuore su quello di Paolo, cioè sulla centralità di Cristo e sull’urgenza di portare il Vangelo a tutto il mondo di oggi e con i mezzi di oggi. In lui cresceva di giorno in giorno quella tenerissima devozione per Maria, Madre di Gesù, che egli amò e pregò per tutta la sua vita. Lo distingueva anche una particolare devozione al Papa.
La svolta sovietica con l'avvento di Gorbaciov, portò don Bernardo a Mosca, come studente dapprima (dal 2 luglio 1989), ma subito si rivelò un grande missionario. Offrì la sua disponibilità al nunzio Mons. Francesco Colasuonno, poi a Sua Ecc. Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz.
Fu fondatore e rettore del Seminario "Regina Apostolorum"; insegnante di Sacra Scrittura, conferenziere instancabile, fondatore e direttore di giornale Svet Evangelija, dell'Istituto Teologico "San Tommaso d'Aquino". In occasione dell'Anno Giubilare era stato nominato Responsabile di tutte le iniziative per il Giubileo nell'ex Unione Sovietica.
Desideroso di aiutare e svolgere l'apostolato nelle Chiese più povere con il permesso del suo vescovo Padre Flavio Roberto Carraro, Vescovo di Verona, don Bernardo il 16 agosto 2001 passò, come Vice-Rettore del Seminario e Vicario Episcopale per la Pastorale, al servizio di Sua Ecc. Jan Pawel Lenga, a Karaganda, nel Kazakhstan, dove nella notte del 27 marzo 2002 terminò il suo pellegrinaggio terreno e andò incontro al Cristo Risorto. La sua salma riposa nella chiesa parrocchiale di Raldon (Verona).

Msgr. Bernardo Antonini was born in Cimego (Trento) on October 20, 1932. He was still a child when the family moved to Raldon (Verona). In 1943 he entered the diocesan seminary in Roverè Veronese and was ordained a priest on June 26, 1955. He exercised his first ministry as parochial vicar in S. Michele Extra (Verona). In 1962 he obtained a degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Literature at the Catholic University of Milan and, two years later, a Licentiate in Dogmatics at Venegono. From 1956 to 1972 he was a teacher in the Minor Seminary. In 1975, having obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, he became a teacher of that discipline at the San Zeno Theological Study in Verona and at the “S. Peter Martyr” Institute. In addition, from 1980 he was Prefect of the G.M. Giberti Institute for the Formation of Young Clergy and Director for the Ongoing Formation of Clergy, as well as from 1983 Director of the Center for Education and Religious Formation of the Diocese.
The hand of God was upon him and was guiding him in quite other apostolic ways, which perhaps Fr. Bernard did not even suspect. In 1977 he entered the Pauline Institute “Jesus Priest.” Fr. Bernard, in contact with the Pauline Family, while remaining strongly attached to the Diocese and to the obedience towards his own Bishop, formed his heart on that of Paul, that is, on the centrality of Christ and on the urgency of bringing the Gospel to the whole world today and by today's means. In him grew day by day that most tender devotion to Mary, Mother of Jesus, whom he loved and prayed to throughout his whole life. A special devotion to the Pope also distinguished him.
The Soviet shift with the advent of Gorbachev, brought Fr. Bernard to Moscow, as a student at first (from July 2, 1989), but he immediately proved to be a great missionary. He offered his availability to Apostolic nuncio Francesco Colasuonno, then to His Exc. Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz.
He was founder and rector of the Seminary “Regina Apostolorum”; teacher of Sacred Scripture, tireless lecturer, founder and editor of the newspaper Svet Evangelija, of the Theological Institute “St. Thomas Aquinas.” On the occasion of the Jubilee Year, he had been appointed Head of all Jubilee initiatives in the former Soviet Union.
Desiring to help and carry out the apostolate in the poorest Churches, with the permission of his bishop Fr. Flavio Roberto Carraro, Bishop of Verona, Fr. Bernardo on August 16, 2001 passed, as Vice-Rector of the Seminary and Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Care, to the service of His Exc. Jan Pawel Lenga, in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, where on the night of March 27, 2002, he ended his earthly pilgrimage and went to meet the Risen Christ. His body rests in the parish church in Raldon (Verona).
